Candace Oliva was appointed as our new Board President for the Sunshine Community Services Center. She is currently the Facility Revenue Manager (Supervisory Financial Management Specialist) and was previously the Administrative Officer, Medicine Service Line (MSL) in Health Systems at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Maywood, Illinois.
She holds two bachelor degrees, Bachelor of Arts, Psychology and Bachelor of Science, Biology; from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA, an Associate of Arts, Health Management Community College of the Air Force, a Master of Science, Psychology from Walden University. She also took course work at Syracuse University, Villanova University, University of Notre Dame - Mendoza College of Business, and . Ashford University.
Candace completed four years in the United States Air Force. After finishing basic training at Lakeland Air Force Base in Texas, she was stationed at Scott Air Force Base near Bellvelle IL and was assigned to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital working in medical services. She then completed two years in the Air Force Reserves and she began her career at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.
Received Various Scholarships and Awards while in college to include:
President’s Scholarship, Peterson Memorial Scholarship, Women’s Basketball Scholarship, Athletic Academic MCC All-Conference, 4-Year participation award for Women’s Basketball
Marcia Gleeson resigned as board president, a position held since 2011, to move closer to family in Texas. We sincerely appreciate her work and dedication to our agency. She will remain as a consultant for us and will always be a personal friend and part of the Sunshine family. She will be missed.
Marcia holds an Associate Degree from Joplin Junior College, a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State Teachers College, Master of Science Degree from Pittsburgh State University and an Administrative Certificate from Illinois State University.
Her educational experience includes 44 years of teaching in grades three to five in Denver, Co., Omaha, NE, and Kewanee, IL. Twenty-five of those years she also served as a principal in the Kewanee School District.
After her retirement from Kewanee Schools, Marcia continued on as principal at St. Pauls, Visitation and Cambridge Schools.
