Fall Session to begin on Sept. 6, 2016
Our summer tutoring program at the Kewanee Public Library was completed on July 28, 2016 for middle school students from the Kewanee and Wethersfield Public Schools. This is our 6th year of having a summer program at the library and our 5th year of being in the public schools.
Thanks to a grant from the Dollar General Foundation, we have been able to expand our services. With the assistance of Barbara Love, the library's assistant director, we have ordered numerous items to enhance our program.
Because of our partnership with Literacy Volunteers of Illinois, we had six AmeriCorps members, who are returning college students or recent high school graduates, who are helping with the program; and we had two high school volunteers.
If you would like to volunteer or would like to enroll a youth in our program, please call Etta LaFlora at (309) 853-7751.
A Scrabble Tournaments on Saturdays in July was sponsored by the Kewanee Area United Way, Literacy Volunteers of Illinois and the Sunshine Community Services Center.
